There are four major destination winter resorts within easy diving distance. Big White, the closest of these is only 45 minutes from Kelowna Airport. Also close are Silver Star, near Vernon, Apex near Penticton, and Sun Peaks, north of Kamloops. There are also a couple of smaller areas, Crystal Mountain, only 15 minutes from Kelowna’s Westside and Mt. Baldy in the Southern Okanagan. For night skiing and boarding enthusiasts, both Big White and Crystal Mountain have lighted slopes.

Big White, BC’s second largest ski resort, is easily accessible from Kelowna. Averaging over 350 inches per year of light Okanagan powder, Big White offers a complete skiing and boarding experience, with 2500 acres of terrain.

Silver Star is known for its delightful village which invokes images of the Old West. A favourite of families and hard core skiers and boarders, alike, it is about 1 hour from Kelowna.

Apex has long been known for its steep chutes and sunny weather. Located half an hour from Penticton and about 1 ½ hour from Kelowna, Apex further adds to the winter sports options.

Brought into the limelight recently, by former Olympic skier, Nancy Green Raine, Sun Peaks has transformed itself over the past few years, with a planned village and new lifts. Sun Peaks offers the area’s largest vertical drop.

Crystal is the closest ski area to Kelowna, located only 8 km. From Westbank, across Lake Okanagan from Kelowna and about 20 km. From downtown. It’s a fairly small area but it has big expansion plans!

Located near Oliver and Osoyoos, well known for some of the Okanagan’s best vineyards, Baldy is known for it’s “Big Powder” Thursdays, when the mountain opens after a 3-day break.

For Big Mountain Skiing and Boarding, Revelstoke Mountain Resort, only 2 ½ hours from Kelowna, boasts North America’s greatest lift serviced vertical drop of 5620 ft (1713 Metres) and tons of lift accessible powder as well as lots of groomers for less adventurous snow lovers.
